1443710 Tool holding assembly; burnishing C S HARRIS 20 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 58981/72 Heading B3T A tool holding assembly for a lathe comprises support body 10 of C-shaped configuration which is mountable on a lathe carriage so as to be freely movable transversely to the axis of rotation of a workpiece to be turned and traversable with the carriage, cutting tool support means 23 for a cutting tool 22 and steady means in the form of rollers 12 carried by the body the rollers being actuated by fluid means to control the cutting forces set up by the tool during a turning operation and prevent the transmission of these forces to the lathe carriage and burnishing means in the form of a roller 17 located on the body so as to trail the cutting tool and burnish the surface of the turned workpiece. The roller 17 is actuated by fluid pressure means and its axis may be skewed relative to the axis of the workpiece.
