Abstract

1443432 Rotary drum filter GEC DIESELS Ltd 19 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 59268/72 Heading B1D An inward-flow rotary filter drum 1 is given a coating 8 of filter aid by nozzle 16 with the liquid level at 12, and the liquid level is raised to 11 for subsequent filtration with the drum totally immersed. Filter aid may be diatomaceous earth, perlite, sand, wood flour or flyash and is applied as powder or slurry. Filtrate is extracted through one end bearing (Fig. 2, not shown), and when flow falls scraper 14 is automatically advanced to remove deposited solids plus some filter aid. When the filter aid coating becomes sufficiently thin, scraper 14 is advanced again and the liquid level lowered prior to recoating. Auger 15 removes solids from tank 2. The liquid may be industrial or sewage plant effluent.
