Abstract

1442830 Heart valve holder MEDICAL INC 7 Sept 1973 [8 Sept 1972] 42262/73 Heading A5R A device for holding a heart valve 10 comprises a body 22 with a head 23 engageable with the valve base 16, an inclined groove 30 in the head for accommodating the valving means 18 and a band 26 for passing over the valve, secured at one point to the head and at its free end in a slot 32 by a screw 34. Holes (25) Fig. 8 (not shown) are provided to relieve blood pressure across the valve during implantation. The band 26 comprises a connecting section (27) Fig. 2 (not shown) moulded into the head, the body with the head and the band being of plastics material, an elliptical shaped section 29 Fig. 2 to cover the valve and a tail section 28 which passes through the slot 31 to be secured in the slot 32. A hole 33 in the body is threaded to receive a handle (14) Fig. 1 (not shown) comprising a rod (37) and flanges (38, 39) with a flexible plastics or rubber sheet (41) between them for use as a suture holder. The band (126) Fig. 14 (not shown) may be attached to the head (123) by a connecting section (127A) coupled to a metal member (125) by a hub (125A) moulded into the head (123), and passed through a slot (131) in an edge of the head to be received in a transverse passage (132). The opening (131) also prbvides relief for blood pressure during implantation.
