Abstract

1,214,707. Surgical pneumatic apparatus. ELECTRONIC & X-RAY APPLICATIONS Ltd. 26 June, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 18381/ 68. Heading A5R. [Also in Division H5] A hollow vessel of X-ray transparent material and having a rim adapted to form an air-tight seal with a part of a patient's body includes means for reducing the pressure in the vessel below atmospheric pressure, whereby, by tending to draw away the flesh from the body, X-ray radiography or therapeutic treatment of underlying tissues-e.g. at the base of the female breast-is facilitated. As described, the vessel 12 is of optically transparent synthetic resin, and has an open end which is shaped to fit against the patient's sternum and ribs, and is provided with a rubber ring 16 to form an air-tight seal. Channel members 17, 18, 19 and 20 are provided to receive an X-ray film slide, and the vessel is supported by the arm 4 which is vertically and rotatably movable with respect to a casing 1 having a suction pump connected to the vessel by the flexible tube 13. The open end of the vessel may be closed by a rubber diaphragm. (For Figure see next page)
