1442328 Straightening vehicle frames A A ROES 31 July 1973 [8 Aug 1972 16 Nov 1972] 37013/72 and 53035/72 Heading B3Q Motor vehicle chassis, &c. straightener comprises a pulley and an engaging means mounted on a post which also includes means for anchoring the post, a tensile member for attachment to the chassis, &c. being guided by the pulley to the engaging means, and means being provided for tensioning the tensile member. In one form, Fig. 1, a bracket 14 adjustably fixed to the post 10 by pins 24, 38 mounts two pulleys 16 for a chain 33 which anchors the post and passes over a third pulley 28 at the top of the post. The top pulley is raised by hydraulic jacks 19 to tension the chain. A buffer, Fig. 3 (not shown), fits in sockets 51, and the apparatus may be moved on two wheels 41 and an adjustable wheel 42. After removal of either or both sleeves 22, 23, the bracket 14 may be repositioned on the post with the assistance of a winch (27), Fig. 2 (not shown), on the other side of the post. A hook or gripper on the chain engages the part to be straightened, and increased force may be applied by replacing the left-hand pulley 16 by a pair of pulleys and a floating pulley between the pair and the chassis to be straightened. The chain 33 passes around the pair of pulleys and the floating pulley and is attached to a point 45 on a lower bracket 46, an additional chain attaching the floating pulley to the chassis. Instead of anchoring the post by means of the chain 33, it may be anchored by a chain attached to the bracket 46 or a reel 40.
