Abstract
1441782 Pack diffusion coating medium carbon alloy steel DAIDO KOGYO KK 30 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50402/73 Heading C7F [Also in Division F2] An article such as a pin, bush, roller, pin link plate or roller link plate for a steel chain is made of a medium carbon alloy steel containing 0.23-0.5% carbon having a surface layer comprising a ferrite phase which has been diffused with at least one element e.g. Si, B, Cr, W, Mo, V, Ti, Al, Be, Zr, Nb which enlarges the α phase boundary to form dispersed carbides and/or nitrides of the element. The article is then quenched and tempered. In an example the steel article is packed in a powder mixture of 65% Fe-Cr, 34% Al 2 O 3 and 1% NH 4 Cl and heated at 950‹C for 3 hours. The chromized article was heated to 850‹C, quenched and tempered. The powder mixture may have added to it 10% of a mixture of 45% BaCO 3 and 55% active carbon or 10% of a mixture of 30% calcium cyanamide, 10% urea anhydride, 15% barium oxalate and 45% active carbon.
