Abstract

1441667 Photographic materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 13 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 43099/73 Heading G2C A photographic material for producing lithographic plates comprises a support coated with a hydrophilic layer of polyvinyl alcohol and hydrolyzed tetraethyl orthosilicate and either (1) a silver precipitating agent in or on said layer (and if on said layer it is applied so that the hydrophilic properties of the layer are not affected) capable of catalyzing the formation of a silver image in the silver salt diffusion transfer process or (2) a layer containing a light-sensitive polymer and a silver halide emulsion layer coated in this order over the hydrophilic layer. The hydrophilic layer may contain a pigment such as TiO 2 , kaolin, Bn SO 4 or calcium silicate. When two light-sensitive layers are applied, a light-sensitive polymer (a polycarbonate) layer and a silver halide emulsion layer as in Specification 655274 are exemplified and this material is imagewise exposed and developed to produce a tanned silver image and then re-exposed for a longer time to harden the polymeric layer and developed to remove the silver halide layer and unexposed areas of the polycarbonate layer. Also in the examples, colloidal Ag or silver proteinate is added to the hydrophilic layer and used as the receiving sheet in a silver salt diffusion transfer process.
