Abstract

1441482 Air flow diffusers CONNOR ENG & MFG Inc 9 May 1974 20509/74 Heading F4V [Also in Divisions G2 and G3] An air flow diffuser comprises a duct 11 having an outwardly flared portion 14 of truncated conical from, and one or as shown two perforated damper plates 40, 50 each axially and radially movable with respect to the axis of duct 11 to regulate the flow rate and distribution pattern of air flow therethrough. In the form shown, the or each plate 40, 50 is circular and includes a slot (45, Fig. 3) extending radially from its centre and a bolt 35 is passed through said slot(s) and washers 37, 52 into a recess in one end of a shaft 34, whereby the or each plate 40, 50 is independently radially movable. The shaft 34 is screw-threadedly received in an opening in a plate 29 supported by a spider, 27, 28 and is movable axially either manually or by an an air motor (60, Fig. 9). The or each plate 40, 50 has a diameter greater than that of duct 11 and the free end of portion 14 in the form of a rectangular flange 20 is closed by a grid 18. Air flow through the openings in plates 40, 50 is stated to prevent induction of room air by the air issuing from the diffuser and thus to prevent soiling of the diffuser and surrounding surfaces. The perforations of the plates 40, 50 are smaller than the perforations of the grid 18.
