Abstract
1441400 Lining tunnels JOHN MOWLEM & CO Ltd 9 Oct 1974 [12 Oct 1973] 47696/73 Heading E1F A tunnel lining erector for constructing a tunnel around an inner tunnel, e.g. a smaller pilot tunnel or when merging two small tunnels into a larger tunnel, includes a chassis 1, 2, 3 which is supported by the inner tunnel and which can be moved axially along the inner tunnel, a pivot block 4, a pair of arms 10, 11 for supporting the lining segments pivoted to the block 4, and a pair of jacks 13, 16 for raising and lowering the arms 10, 11. The chassis 1, 2, 3 is of A-shape and is provided with bearer pads 6, 7 which engage the outer surface of the inner tunnel. A curved leg 8 is pivoted to chassis member I and is provided with bearer pad 9. The chassis is anchored to a previously erected portion of the tunnel by a tie 24. The chassis is provided with a winch 23 and the arms 10, 11 with sheaves 22 to allow lining segments to be hauled onto the arms 10, 11 by cables (not shown). To allow the erector to be adjusted to suit different size tunnels, each arm 10, 11 is formed from sections pivoted to each other. The angle between each section is determined by a spacer 20 bolted between flanges 17 on adjacent sections and the number of sections in each arm may be varied. Spacers (not shown) may also be provided between the pivot block 4 and chassis 1, 2, 3. The jack 13 is also connected to arm 11 by a member 14 whose length may be varied.
