Abstract

1375516 Setting ballast blocks on the base of a tower crane MATERIEL DE MANUTENTION POUR L'ENTREPRISE ET LE BATIMENT-MANUBAT SA 20 July 1973 [7 Aug 1972] 34772/73 Heading B8B A method of positioning ballast blocks R on the base B of a building crane having a tower P held on the base B, a jib F and a jib stay A articulated at the upper end of the tower P at P2, a bracing wire H linking the free ends of the jib F and the jib stay A, a block and tackle M acting on the free end A1 of the jib stay A and at least one cable (two shown: C1, C2) extending from the free end A1 of the jib stay A, comprises (a) raising the jib F, using the block and tackle M, to bring the end of the cable (C1, C2) adjacent the ballast block R; (b) fastening the cable (C1, C2) to the ballast block R; (c) lowering the jib F, using the block and tackle M, to raise the ballast block R and (d) raising the jib F, using the block and tackle M, to lower the ballast block R on to the base B. Further ballast blocks R (not shown) may be positioned on the base B in a similar manner, as required. By reversing the above sequence (a) to (d) the ballast blocks R may be removed from the base B when the crane is to be resited.
