Abstract

1439960 Air doctoring device FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 20 June 1973 [20 June 1972] 29411/73 Heading D1L A device for recovering excess coating material removed from the surface of a coated web 6 by an air knife doctor 8 comprises a housing including a separating plate 12 upon which the coating liquid-laden air flow 11 impinges and a first collecting chamber 13 disposed below the plate 12 to collect liquid droplets formed thereon and arranged so that the air flow 15 moving passed the plate 12 does not directly enter the chamber to re-entrain the collected coating liquid, the housing also including a second collecting chamber 17 for liquid separated from the gas flow 15 when it impinges on the wall 16 of the housing. A third collecting chamber 27 may also be provided for liquid separated from gas flow 28 passing to air discharge duct 31. The collected excess material is discharged for recovery through discharge ports 14, 21 and 30 respectively. To facilitate cleaning of the device the second chamber 17 may be fixed and separable from the remainder of the housing which is mounted on wheels 35, 36 running on rails 37. Air removed from the collecting device through discharge duct 31 may be passed to a water shower device for removal at any remaining fine particles of coating liquid [Fig. 5 (not shown)].
