Abstract
1439581 Bag filling apparatus BORACIER SA 20 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 7671/74 Heading B8C [Also in Division B5] A machine for packaging material having a low mesh size comprises a basket 27 for supporting the bag during filling, means 92 for imparting a vibratory movement to the basket, a first chamber 15 for the material to be packaged having a discharge pipe 18 leading into a second chamber 13 provided with a door 20 for introduction of the basket, means for maintaining a high vacuum in the first chamber and then in both chambers, and heads 82 for sealing the bag neck in the second chamber. Bags are manually moved from a supply chain 1 to a tube 7 which has a seal which inflates to grip the bag. The tube fully inflates the bag and lowers it into the basket 27 which is secured to the door 20. Pivotally mounted arms on the door carry semicircular ribs which are lowered into the bag neck which is gripped between the ribs and exterior inflatable seals. The second chamber 13 has a jack to move a wall 29 to close the side of the basket. The end of the discharge pipe is lowered into the bag neck and a valve is opened connecting the second chamber to the evacuated first chamber 15 which contains a funnel connected to a weighing machine and into which funnel material from a shoot 61 has fallen. After the material has been degassed it falls through the discharge pipe into the bag. As the pipe is lifted hooks (72, Fig. 5, not shown) engage opposed points of the bag neck to pull them apart and thus flatten the bag neck for sealing by the heads 82. The heads have bag engaging surfaces (88, Fig. 7, not shown) of PTFE filled with bronze and of respectively male and female contour (Fig. 8, not shown). After the door 20 is opened, a suction plate 28 rotatably carried on a longitudinally movable support 97 pulls the sealed bag from the basket. The machine may be a duplex machine having two first chambers 13, 14 side-by-side connected by a pipe 56, and working 180 degrees out of phase so that when one chamber is ready to be evacuated and the other chamber is ready to be returned to atmospheric pressure a valve 57 is opened to equalize pressures.
