Abstract

1439056 Reservoir brushes; hair combing and waving SCHICK Inc 9 Oct 1973 [12 Oct 1972] 47027/73 Headings A4K and A4V [Also in Division A5] A hair styling appliance comprises a housing 21, 22 having a handle portion and a head portion adapted to detachably receive a comb or brush attachment; means within the head portion for applying a heated air-stream to said hair as it is combed or brushed; a nozzle 29 within said head portion for injecting a spray into said air-stream; a liquid passageway 80 extending between the nozzle and a liquid pump 62 in the handle portion, the pump communicating with a liquid reservoir 60 in said handle portion; and pump actuating means associated with the handle portion. Air is drawn in through an inlet 24 and discharged through an outlet 28 by the vanes 46 of a transverse flow fan 40 rotated by a motor 41 and a vortex stabilizing wall 47, the air being heated by resistive heating elements 50, 51 and passing from outlet 28 through apertures (34) or slots (38) in a removable comb or brush attachment (23 or 35). Heating elements 50, 51 and fan motor 41 are controlled by a 3- position high-low-off switch 25. The comb attachment (23), Fig. 3, (not shown) has one or more rows of teeth 33. The brush attachment (35), Fig. 4, (not shown) has transverse rows of brush clusters (37) depending from a curved or flat surface. On manual operation of a pivoted trigger 27, a lever 64 is pivoted to actuate the plunger of a single stroke pump 62 mounted within a water reservoir bottle 60, and water is forced from the bottle 60 into a hoze 80 which is connected to the nozzle 29, the pressure of the pump opening a relief check-valve 85 in hoze 80. The bottle 60 is removable from the housing.
