[Also in Divisions A4, B4 and Fl] An apparatus for body care for driving a variety of appliance heads requiring either an oscillating drive or a supply of liquid under pressure or both comprises a pump unit including a liquid reservoir (14, Fig. 1, not shown) a motor 31 and a pump (Fig. 3), for suppling pulses of liquid under pressure, a casing 51 forming a handle, at least one flexible conduit connecting the pump unit and casing, a shaft 69 mounted in the casing and accessible from the outside of the casing for driving an appliance head attached thereto, an hydraulic motor 54-59 in said casing for oscillating said shaft, a conduit 73 in the casing for delivering water under pressure to chamber 74 for an appliance head and control means 52 actuatable to establish a liquid connection between the pump unit and hydraulic motor through the flexible conduit and actuatable alternatively to establish a connection between said pump unit and said conduit 73 in the casing to deliver water under pressure thereto. Preferably the hydraulic motor includes an inlet port 53 from a supply conduit 12 and an outlet port 61 leading into a return flexible conduit 13. Slide valve 81 is slidable transversely of the handle 51 to provide for bypassing both the conduit 73 and the hydraulic motor by conducting liquid along channels 82, 83, 84, 85 to channel 62 and thus to flexible return conduit 13, whilst cutting off channel 73 from chamber 74. The pump (Fig. 3) supplies pressure pulses of liquid and comprises a reciprocating piston 32 sliding in cylinder 33 and attached to slide 34 driven by an eccentric pin on a disc (not shown) driven by motor 31. Liquid enters chamber 36 from the reservoir (14) and passes check valve 37 to enter cylinder 33 and is expelled into conduit 12. Liquid returning via conduit 13 enters chamber 36 through valve 19. The hydraulic motor (Fig. 6) has a piston 54 mounted on a shaft 56 biased towards one end of the cylinder 55 by spring 57, the piston being prevented from rotating by pin 58 sliding in channel 59. The shaft 56 may drive a motion converter 63, 64, 65, 66, to convert the longitudinal oscillation into rotational oscillation or (Fig. 10, not shown), be extended to provide longitudinal oscillation for an appliance head. The appliance heads disclosed are a toothbrush, a water jet, two razors, hair brush and massager, a massager, scissors, a nail file, a shower rose make up dispenser and powderer, hair clippers (Respectively in Figs. 1, 2, 11 and 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 all not shown).
