Abstract

1406963 Reciprocating pumps H PAAL 2 Nov 1973 [4 Nov 1972] 51009/73 Heading F1A A pump for dispensing drops of adhesive, e.g. hot glue, comprises a cylinder 8 with an inlet 11 from a storage reservoir 1, a pressure-relief valve-controlled connection 18 back to the reservoir and an outlet to a delivery nozzle 19, the outlet being opened to the pumping chamber via a piston passage towards the end of the discharge stroke of the piston 7 and during the initial portion of the return stroke. The opening pressure of relief valve 15 is adjustable by a movable valve spring seat with a lock unit 17. Piston 7 is reciprocated by a drive assembly 5 and has packing 9. The pump and reservoir are heated electrically under the control of a sensor 3. The piston passage opens into a longitudinal groove in the piston side wall pistons of different groove length being used to provide different opening times for the outlet.
