In an electric shaver comprising an electric motor to produce relative movement of a pair of cutting elements, means are provided for dispensing a liquid adjacent the cutting elements to reach the surface over which the cutting elements are moved. In one form, as applied to a shaver of the reciprocating type, liquid under pressure contained in a reservoir 41, Figs. 2 and 3, is selectively applied through openings 66, Fig. 5, in conduits 64a, 64b to the surface to be shaved by means of a valve 51 the plunger 54 of which is operable by a lever 62. The conduits are secured to curved flanges 27a, 27b of the legs of a U-shaped comb spacer 27. When the lever 62 is operated to open the valve, liquid passes from the reservoir through a conduit 49 to a manifold 45 and thence through conduits 67a, 67b, 69a and 69b to the conduits 64a, 64b. The reservoir is provided with a filler valve 73. Starting wheel mechanism 85 accessible through an opening in the shaver casing is provided with a seal to prevent dispensed liquid from entering the opening. Alternatively, the valve may be actuated by depression of one or both rollers 95, Fig. 2. Further, the motor 28 reciprocating the cutters 14 may actuate a pump to supply a predetermined amount of liquid at the openings 66. Still further, the reservoir may contain a liquid which has pressure applied thereto by means of a charged gas to force the liquid to the shaving head. In a modification, Figs. 9 and 10, applied to a shaver 96 of the oscillating type, liquid is supplied from a container 114 by means of a flexible tube 113 to a bore 109 in cutter shaft 99 and thence to dispensing tubes 116a, 116b which terminate adjacent to openings 117 in comb 103. The container may be an aerosoltype dispenser or be disposed at an elevation such that the hydraulic head causes liquid to be supplied to the shaver. This modification may also be applied to a shaver of the rotary type. In another modification, Fig. 13, liquid is supplied to dispensing tubes, e.g. 120b and thence through openings 121 provided both in the comb 103 and in the walls of the tubes.
