Abstract

1438981 Metering fluent materials ABEX CORP 5 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 26900/73 Heading B8N [Also in Division F1] A device for dividing a single input source of liquid into two equal output sources or combining two input flows in equal proportions into a single output source comprises an even number, at least a pair, of units as shown in Fig. 2A. Input liquid is supplied to the ports S and is equally divided between ports A and B. Source liquid S is supplied to both ports 1 and in cylinder 1 flows through a chamber 30, out of a port 4 and into chamber 21 in cylinder 2 to push the piston to the right. This displaces liquid from a chamber 22 of cylinder 2 on to a chamber 33 of cylinder 1 through a port 5. From here it goes out through a port 2 into line B. As the piston in cylinder 2 moves to the right ports 4 and 3 are connected and ports 5 and 1. Liquid from port 1 of cylinder 2 now flows through port 5 to the chamber 31 of cylinder 1 so that the piston in cylinder 1 begins to move to the right. This displaces liquid from a chamber 32 through port 4, chamber 24 of cylinder 2 and port 3 to line A. This movement of the pistons continues, one leading the other and liquid is alternately fed to lines A and B. In a similar manner inputs to lines A and B may be combined in equal volumes and fed out at lines S. Other embodiments are illustrated and described which employ several pairs of units.
