Abstract

1,235,456. Fluid digital systems. TEMPLE INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 7 Feb., 1970, No. 5964/70. Heading G4P. [Also in Division F2] Valve comprises a body 10 having a bore 14 with an inlet 17 between first and second outlets 13, 15. A valve member has a main part 19 resiliently centered lengthwise in the bore and a relatively movable sealing part such as 0-ring 27 for isolating the outlets selectively from the inlet. The arrangement is such that successive cessations and reapplications of the inlet pressure cause the connections through the valve to the two outlets to alternate from one to the other. As shown the sealing ring seats alternately on faces 30, 31 in the restored positions after each cessation and the part 19 is moved in the direction of the sealed end by the fresh application of pressure to abut the end of the bore. The device can be used with pneumatic or hydraulic fluids and in the latter case sealing may additionally be effected at the ends 25 of the part 19 to protect the ring 30. The device may e.g. form part of a reversing control of a double-acting cylinder, or by connection to other valves it may be arranged that one pulse out of every n pulses is directed to a particular outlet whilst the remaining pulses are all directed to a different outlet, so that a digital counting function is performed.
