Abstract

1438790 Foil-sealed, impregnated carriers for hand care W HURKA 10 Aug 1973 [15 Feb 1973] 38005/73 Headings A5E and ASB A carrier, air-tightly and moisture-tightly sealed in foil, is impregnated with a composition for the protection of the hands, which composition contains a film-forming agent which forms a protective film on the skin, together with one or more active substances for the disinfection, protection or care of the skin. The carrier may be a towel based on paper, plastics material or textile material, or a sponge or pad of wadding. The foil preferably is an optionally coated aluminium foil. The following substances are preferably used as film-forming agents: 1) Macromolecular filmforming agents, a) natural mucilages: gums, alginates, dextrans, b) semi-synthetic macromolecules: methyl and ethylcellulose esters or ethers, for example ethylhydroxyethylcellulose, methylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, c) entirely synthetic macromolecules. polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and polyacrylic acids, 2) Fats, oils waxes: for example wool fat alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearates, petroleum jelly, paraffin oil, polyethylene glyools, 3) Silicone oil. Specified disinfectants are listed amphoteric substances, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorohexidine salts, aldehydes, phenol derivatives and hexachlorophene. Active ingredients for the protection or care of the skin are:- a) Sun protection media: for example, p-aminobenzoates, salicylates, anthranyl salts, zinc oxide, b) Active substances protecting against radiation for example: brominated oleic acid, c) Substances protectng against dust: stearic acid, waxes, d) Substances protecting against absorption of chromium, lead or other heavy metals; e.g. complexing agents, hydroquinones, e) Substances for the care of skin; for example refatting and superfatting agents, glycerine partial fatty acid esters, glycerine, a triglyceride of saturated vegetable fatty acid of medium chain length, an ethoxylated fatty acid monoglyceride ester, a composition of saturated triglycerides of natural fatty acids, lanolin; f) Substances assisting wound healing and tissue regeneration: allantoin, vitamin A, fish-liver oil, vitamin C.
