Abstract

1438665 Cationic rubber asphalt emulsions KAO SOAP CO Ltd 27 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 30596/73 Heading C3P Cationic rubber asphalt emulsions are prepared by adding a quaternary ammonium salt to an anionic synthetic rubber latex formed by emulsion polymerizing synthetic rubber forming monomers in the presence of an anionic surface active agent to convert the latex to a non-ionic latex which is added to a cationic asphalt emulsion containing an emulsifier which is a quaternary ammonium salt. The product may be used to seal coat road surfaces, as a filler, a waterproofing agent or as a flooring material. In the examples a butadiene-styrene, butadiene-acrylonitrile or a neoprene anionic latex is converted to non-ionic latex by the addition of a quaternized product of an ethylene oxide adduct of an alkylamine, and is added to a cationic aqueous asphalt emulsion containing as emulsifier one of a number of specified quaternary ammonium salts.
