Abstract

1438283 Vehicle rear view mirror DESMO Ltd 16 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 38978/72 Heading B7J A vehicle rear view mirror comprises an arm 3 which mounts the mirror proper 1 by a ball and socket joint 4 and is attached to a mounting foot 5 by a helical tension spring 25 which causes rachet teeth 33 on a bevelled boss 17 of the arm to engage teeth 34 around the periphery of aperture 24 at one end of the foot, the spring extending between an eye 18 of the boss and an L-shaped bracket 27 retained by a screw 29 to a retaining plate 30 whereby the tension in the spring can be adjusted. The bracket is held by webs 31 to prevent it rotating and plate 30 by ribs 32 from which it can be disengaged by downward movement. The forward end 35 ofthe spring is enlarged to prevent it being over stretched by passing through aperture 24. The mirror proper is retained by a bolt 11 passing through ball 9 and screw threaded into the arm, the ball rotating in a socket 7 attached to the mirror casing.
