Abstract
1438281 Milk conductivity measuring apparatus CHALTON ELECTRONIC SERVICES Ltd 16 Aug 1973 [16 May 1972] 22791/72. Heading G1N In a milk conductivity indicator for detecting mastitis a trigger circuit responsive to the attenuation of a current passed through a conductivity cell is inhibited by a delay circuit for a predetermined initial period commencing with the commencement of milking. Pulses from a multivibrator including amplifier Al are applied to one electrode of a conductivity cell 25, Fig. 2 (not shown) the second electrode of which is connected via rectifier D1 and a smoothing circuit to charge capacitor C4. The voltage across capacitor C4 is applied to the inverting input of Schmitt trigger A2 which is triggered when the voltage across capacitor C4 exceeds a level set by potentiometer R10 i.e. if the conductivity of the milk. in cell 25 exceeds a predetermined level indicating the onset of mastitis. In accordance with the invention a delay circuit is provided including a timer 28 to prevent operation of the trigger circuit. Pulses passed through cell 25 are applied via transistor TR2 to set delay circuit 28 so that charge is prevented from building up on capacitor C4. After capacitor 11 has charged via resistor 22 to a level to release the delay circuit 28 the attenuated pulses from cell 25 charge capacitor C4. If the voltage exceeds the reference voltage the Schmitt trigger is fired and due to feedback capacitor C5 operates as a monostable multi-vibrator the frequency of whose output is an indication of how much the capacitor voltage exceeds the reference The output pulses light a light emitting diode LD of the respective apparatus which are also fed to transistor TR1 whereby bell 26 is activated. Cell construction Fig. 2. The cell 2 is generally spherical of polycarbonate material and is provided with diametrically opposed inlet and outlet ports 4, 8 connected to the milking machine cluster and measuring jar, respectively. One of the ports has a tubular extension 16 into the interior of the cell to form an annular well 12 into which graphite electrodes 10 extend through the cell wall. Drain duct 6 is provided.
