Charging.-A method and apparatus for feeding pulverulent materials, and particularly fuel to furnaces, consists in providing a main air conduit in which air is caused to flow at different velocities, part of the air at a lower velocity being led from the main conduit from a feeding apparatus where it picks up material to be fed, and then being returned to the main conduit to a point where the air is flowing at a higher velocity. In the form of apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the main air conduit 610 is provided with a Venturi tube 611 where the velocity of the air being forced through the main is increased. A secondary air conduit 612 passes to the fuel-feeding apparatus 613 where the air picks up fuel fed from the hopper 613<b> by a screw conveyer 613<a> and is mixed therewith by a paddle 613<c> mounted on the end of the conveyer shaft. The mixed fuel and air then passes to the Venturi tube 611 through its open end 612<a>, which is provided with an adjustable sleeve 614 to vary the point of discharge.
