Abstract

1438002 Fire safety system in a building K G SMOKE DISPERSAL Ltd 21 June 1974 [26 June 1973] 46912/74 Divided out of 1438001 Heading ASA A fire safety system in a multi storey buliding having a plurality of accommodation units 6, 7 and 8 providing means of access to the accommodation units comprises on each floor a plurality of smoke detectors 19 and 21 in the communal units, fans 22 and 24 associated with vents in air shafts 1 and 3 arranged to draw air from the shafts into the communal units, wherein on detection of smoke by the detectors on a particular floor the fans 22, 24 on that floor are reversed (and preferably speeded up) so that air is supplied to the particular floor under pressure. The system also comprises a shaft 2 with associated fans 23 which under normal conditions all draw air into the shaft from the floors but on detection of smoke by detector 20 speed up to increase the air extraction rate. The shafts are made up of prefabricated units 32 with vent openings 33, plates 35 and fan units 36.
