Abstract

1437922 Air supply indicators G KROMSCHRODER AG 13 June 1974 [2 Aug 1973] 26344/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division H2] Apparatus for monitoring the supply of air to a furnace wherein the air is supplied by a blower 2 driven by a motor 1 comprises a first relay 8 having normally open contacts 12 in series with a second relay 10 having normally closed contacts 13 in series with the motor 1, these contacts being in an indicator circuit 11, the relay 8 being arranged to operate at the nominal working current of motor 1 and relay 10 being arranged to operate at a predetermined value between this nominal working current and the starting current of the motor. This predetermined value is nearer the nominal working current than the starting current. In operation when the motor is switched on high starting current flows through relays 8 and 10 and relay 8 closes its contacts 12 and relay 10 opens its contacts 13 so that the indicator remains unoperated, but when the motor speeds up and its current drops to the nominal working value the contacts 12 remain closed but relay 10 now operates at the predetermined value and closes its contacts 13 to operate the indicator. If a fault is present and the motor does not reach its nominal speed the indicator remains unoperated due to contacts 13 remaining open. Instead of two separate relays, a relay with two armatures may be used, Fig. 4, not shown, when an additional winding to compensate for current fluctuations may be present.
