Abstract
705,236. Control of A.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 12, 1952 [July 5, 1951], No. 14847/52. Class 38(3) Means for stopping a motor 1 by plugging and terminating the power supply when the motor has come substantially to a standstill and before it begins to rotate in a reverse direction comprise a coil 9 which is positioned upon the housing of the motor and has developed therein a voltage component indicative of the tooth ripple voltage, and therefore the speed, of the machine. The coil 9 is connected to a filter circuit 10 wherein voltage components other than the tooth ripple component are removed, the resultant speed signal voltage being amplified and then applied to the grid of a discharge valve 13 which is biased to cut-off. If the motor is operated at a speed above a predetermined value the output from the coil 9 is sufficient to render the valve 13 conductive so that a relay 8 is energized to close contacts 8b. When the motor speed drops to the predetermined value during plugging operation, however, the discharge valve 13 stops conducting and the contacts 8b open to de-energize the plugging contactor 4.
