Abstract
1437439 Shaft furnace GEORG FISCHER AG 10 Aug 1973 [11 Aug 1972] 38061/73 Heading F4B In a shaft furnace having a charging aperture 2, a gas 11 is caused to flow across and out of the shaft. This gas entrains gas which is rising in the shaft. The flow across the shaft is from a slot-shaped inlet 6 to a slot-shaped outlet 9 and is caused by a fan 4 and suction device 7. As shown, the gas is taken from a flue gas exhaust conduit 12. A dust separator 13 and/or a safety burner 20 are provided. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates apparatus where the gas 11 is taken from the ambient air, there is no exhaust conduit 12 and there is a safety burner 20 and/or a gas processing chamber (19) (such as a coarse dust separator or a combustion chamber for inflammable flue gas). Figs. 4, 5 and 6 (not shown) illustrate modified devices each having a gas processing chamber (28) (e.g. a gas cooler) and filter (29).
