Abstract

1437386 Central heating systems R H D CARLSON and K G MALMSTROM 23 Oct 1973 49378/73 Heading F4U A central heating system comprises a safety pipe 8 connecting a heating circuit 3 to an expansion tank 10 via a branch pipe 9, having a pressure-dependent flow regulator 11, and a pipe 12 having a continuously running pump 13 which has an output pressure greater than the opening-pressure of the flow regulator 11 whereby water is circulated continuously from the tank 10 and through the pipes 12 and 9. On expansion of water in the circuit 3, the pressure rises in the pipe 8 and the flow through the regulator 11 increases and the water level in the expansion tank 10 rises. The tank 10 includes a flexible diaphragm 16 and may be coupled to a second expansion tank. The circuit 3 may be the secondary side of a district heating system and may include a hot water heater 5, radiators 6 or a warm air heating unit 7.
