Abstract

1437089 Detergent concentrates ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 25 May 1973 [26 May 1972] 25052/72 Heading C5D An aqueous concentrate of an ether sulphate, which is dilutable with water without increase in viscosity, comprises (A) 40 to 75% by weight of an ether sulphate of formula R 1 (OR 2 ) m OSO 3 M 1 , wherein R 1 is an alkyl radical of at least 8 carbon atoms, R 2 is ethylene and/or propylene, m is at least 1 and M 1 is an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, amine or ammonium cation, and (B) 0À5 to 20% by weight of a compound RX n , wherein R is a C 1 to C 6 saturated aliphatic hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxyhydrocarbyl radical or a C 2 to C 6 unsaturated hydrocarbyl radical each of which is unsubstituted or substituted by an alkoxy or hydroxy group or substituted in a non-terminal position by at least one carbonyl oxygen atom, such that the total number of carbon atoms in R is 1 to 6, X is -OSO 3 M 2 or wherein M 2 is defined as for M, and n is 1 to 4. The viscosity modifiers (B) may be acetone disulphonic acid, the mono-, di- or tri- and tetrasulphates of pentaerythritol, mono ethyl sulphate, vinyl sulphonic acid, ethylene glycol monosulphite and salts thereof, especially sodium salts. The ether sulphate may be the sodium salt of the sulphate of the adduct of lauryl alcohol and 2 moles of ethylene oxide.
