Abstract

1436691 Automatic control of speed of gear cutting machines WERKZEUGMASCHINEN KOMBINAT VEB 21 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 02740/74 Addition to 1378921 Headings G3N and G3R The control system for a gear tooth generating machine operating by a hobbing method is modified by replacing a differential gear used to add in the required feed movement to cut helical gears with an electrical system which provides the required speed value and is synchronized with the tool speed signals. The additional items necessary to provide the feed movement control are shown within the outlined area the remaining items all being present in the original system. In operation the tool drive operates as the master drive and the tool speed transducer provides pulses which pass through gate 12 to operate gates 2, 6 and 22 as well as comparator 9 and store 23. Pulses representing the desired speed of the workpiece are stored in 3 and pulses representing the actual speed of the workpiece are stored in 7. Pulses representing the desired feed speed as an additional rotational movement of either the workpiece or tool are derived from 18 and 16 as a binary whole number and binary fractional number. The summing device 20, 21 adds successive fractions by recirculating them so that only whole numbers pass through gate 22 to store 23. This additional whole number of pulses passes through directional switch 24 to either store 3 or 7 depending on the angle of helix required. The number of pulses in stores 3 and 7 are compared and the error used to adjust the speed of the workpiece after being converted to an analogue signal in 10.
