Abstract

1410636 Automatic control of electro-erosion ING C OLIVETTI & C SpA 8 Nov 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 51600/72 Heading G3N [Also in Division B3] An electro-erosion machine having a wire electrode tool extending between two tool supports comprises means responsive to the relative movement between the tool supports and a workpiece table along two co-ordinate axes for relatively adjusting the tool supports to incline the wire electrode to enable a raked cut edge to be produced. In one embodiment, the machine's control apparatus, which is similar to that described in Specification 1154761 comprises an interpolator 97 connected to a punched tape reader 96 supplying the co-ordinates of the workpiece tables and to an adaptive control unit 98 for modifying the speed of the tables computed by the interpolator 97 as a function of the voltage between the wire electrode and the workpiece. Depending on the sign of the output signals of the interpolator 97, gates 102, 103, 108, 109 are enabled to cause valves 92-95 to open which in turn cause movement of the tool supports to incline the wire (see Division B3). In another embodiment Fig. 15 (not shown), the output signals of the interpolator 97 are fed to a resolver (260) via registers (266, 267) and converters (268, 269) timed by an oscillator (270). An output error signal from the resolver (260) is fed to a motor (257) which rotates a sleeve (151) causing the tool supports to move to incline the electrode. During rotation of the sleeve (151), the rotor of the resolver (260) is rotated by gears (157, 262) until the error signal is nullified.
