Abstract
1361231 Automatic control of electro-erosion INDUSTRIELLE ELEKTRONIK AGIE LOSONE BEI LOCARNO A G 5 July 1971 [3 July 1970] 31473/71 Heading G3N [Also in Division B3] An electro-erosion machine, see Division B3, is controlled by information stored on a punched or magnetic tape read by a reader 102 and fed into a buffer memory 102. The memory is read out through a code-converter 103 into a computing unit wherein corrections to the information is affected in dependence on the wire diameter and gap dimensions fed in from a manual input 107. The output from the unit 104, representing the actual path to be cut by the wire electrode, is fed to a computing unit 105, where, in a first section, the curve lengths of a path are determined and fed to a second section from which Cartesian co-ordinate signals to position drive motors 11, 14 for a table 1 on which the workpiece is mounted. The computing unit 105 also feeds polar co-ordinates of characteristic curve points to a computing unit 123 determining the path curve of a wire electrode and supplies signal to a motor 25 positioning a rotary table 24 on which the workpiece is mounted on the table 1. Additionally, the wire electrode can be positioned by two synchronised rotary tables. Manual movements are effected by a device 109. Each computing unit contains a return memory 108, 125 storing the recent travel movements so that on detection of a short-circuit in the gap 111 by a device 110 the wire electrode can be withdrawn. The monitoring device criteria is set in from the tape or, manually, from a device 115. The removal of the short-circuit causes forward movement to recommence. Data relating to a conical shape to be cut is fed to a conicity computing unit, (not shown), incorporating a return memory, via a line 3 from data fed to a unit 116 and which is responsive to fault indication on lines 4, 5 and polar and Cartesian path dimensions on lines 6, 7 in the event of a single rotary table being employed. The unit 116 additionally, modifies the flushing operations and electrical parameters of the erosion generator set by a clock generator 113, set manually 112 or from the tape, and the setting of the device 110. In an alternative arrangement the conicity unit modifies the signal from unit 104 on lines 1, 2 the connection c, d being broken. An electronic indexing device 117 enables the characteristic data from unit 104 to be rotated by a certain angle.
