Abstract
1436538 Stamping JOHN DALE Ltd 9 Nov 1973 [17 Nov 1972 20 Feb 1973] 53264/72 and 8359/73 Heading B3Q Articles such as closures, bottle caps and collapsible tubes 60 are expanded in a chamber 52 by the products of a combustion occurring in a separate combustion chamber 11. The chamber 52 is connected by a valve chest 27 to the combustion chamber 11. A mixture of air or oxygen and a fuel such as petrol, natural gas or coal gas is supplied through an inlet valve 21 to a perforated tube 18 coiled about a heater 17. A sparking plug &c. 24 ignites the charge and a spring-pressed valve 33 is lifted by the expanding gases which pass through passages 36, 45 into the workpiece. This is expanded away from a seal 44 past which the gases exhaust through ports 57. A quick-release connection secures the chest 27 to the chamber 52. The combustion is a flashover rather than explosion, with pressures as low as 200 p.s.i.
