Abstract
1436215 Ink jets MEAD CORP 3 Aug 1973 [4 Aug 1972] 36991/73 Heading B6P Ink jet generator has a chamber in a manifold initially pressurized by gas to a pressure equal to or higher than the pressure required to produce stable ink jets from orifices in the manifold. When ink is subsequently introduced to the manifold the jets start up without " weeping ". Further the manifold can also be supplied with a flushing liquid, i.e. one which evaporates without leaving any trace, after the initial gas pressurizing and before supplying the ink so that any mist initially ejected through orifices before stable jets are formed does not dirty the apparatus. Such a liquid may be 50% denatured alcohol and 50% distilled, deionized water. To permit rapid shut down without " weeping " the manifold can be connected to a source of sub-atmospheric pressure.
