Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower the viscosity of an ink and enable it to be jetted more easily by a method wherein an ink existing in the interior of a head and increased in viscosity is heatd immediately before starting a printing operation. CONSTITUTION:A heating body 103 is provided on a head base 101 at a part corresponding to nozzles 106. The ink present at or near the nozzles 106 and increased in viscosity is heated to lower the viscosity, then it is jetted in the same manner as in a printing operation by the vibration of a piezoelectric element 104 and the heating is stopped, whereby the clogging of the nozzles is eliminated. The heating temperature is preferably 40-80 deg.C. When the temperature is below 40 deg.C, the viscosity of the ink is not lowered sufficiently. When the temperature is above 80 deg.C, on the other hand, the ink in the interior of the head tends to be vaporized to form bubbles, which will absorb the pressure waves supplied from the piezoelectric element 104, making it impposible to generate ink droplets.
