Abstract

1436064 Friction pads; friction clutches K-R BEYRER 24 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 23380/74 Headings F2E and F2C In a friction brake or coupling, a friction lining of bonded friction material is provided with a layer of plastics adhesive material which has binding properties under pressure load only, the binding property ceasing when no pressure load is preset. A composition for the adhesive is 50-60% by weight of a plastics adhesive material, 0-5% by weight of a filler material, e.g. carbon black grade CK3, 40-50% by weight of a solvent mixture consisting of equal parts of ethyl alcohol and trichloroethylene. The filler is added to the plastics material forming a dispersion to which the premixed solvent is added. The solid material is about 20% of the solution which is applied to friction material with a spray gun and left to dry beyond stickiness. The resulting linings 12, 321 are riveted or screwed to supports 11 or 32 to be applied to steel or iron alloy rotatable members 13, 34. For braking, the linings are stationary and for clutching they are rotatable. The adhesive allows smaller rivets or screws to be used to provide more lining wear, but allow ready dismounting of the linings when replacements are required.
