Abstract
1435628 Motor vehicles N LAING 6 March 1974 [6 March 1973] 10066/74 Heading B7H [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for supplying heat energy to thermal storage means in vehicles to operate prime movers, a fluid heat carrier medium is heated at a central point which may be a power station 1 ... 4 as shown or a nuclear reactor and is circulated by flow and return pipes 5, 6 respectively to heat supply stations, where the heat accumulators 11 of motor vehicles 12 are charged. The thermal accumulator 20 comprises flat metal containers housing a thermal storage substance and having thin-walled small bore tubes 21 arranged therein for the heat transfer fluid which passes via lines 22, 23 to and from a coupling device 24. A parallel linkage 25 allows movement of the device into contact with a stationary element in the supply line 26 which is formed with a conical mating surface and sealing device. The medium may be superheated steam or fluid metal and an intermediate heat exchanger may be used between the supply station and heat accumulator which utilizes hydrogen.
