Abstract

1434979 Nut runners CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO 15 Oct 1973 [30 Oct 1972] 47981/73 Heading B3N [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A pneumatic nut runner includes a motor 11, an air shut-off valve 22 adapted to move to a closed position upon chamber 34 being pressurized via bleed port 33, and a throttle valve 16, characterized by a centrifugally operable control unit 30 comprising a body 36 mounted to the rotor shaft 12 of the motor for rotation in a vented chamber 35, the body has an internal chamber 39 provided with a ball valve seat 41 connected by port 45 to the vented chamber, a ball valve 42 movable axially relative to the seat and being biased by spring 43 theretoward, and an inlet port 46 to the internal chamber connected with the chamber 34 at the underside of the shut-off valve 22, the ball valve being movable from its seat in response to centrifugal forces developed by the motor. In operation depression of valve 16 allows air to pass to the motor and bleed via port 33 to chamber 34. As the motor picks up speed valve ball 42 is moved off its seat thus venting chamber 34. The ball does not move back on to its seat until the water stops. Build up of pressure in chamber 34 then occurs and valve 22 moves to a closed position. The control unit 30 is balanced.
