Abstract

1434200 Platforms JONES & ATTWOOD Ltd 26 Nov 1973 [1 Dec 1972] 55519/72 Heading B8H [Also in Divisions B1-B2] Solids retained upstream of a screen and comminutor 10 in a sewage duct are lifted out of the duct by a platform 12 which reciprocates vertically in a chamber 11 which has a front aperture at its lower end (Fig. 2, not shown), hydraulic or pneumatic ram 13, 14 lowering the platform 12 faster than it is raised. Platform 12 has spikes 16 which retain the solids swept on to the platform by its rapid descent. When platform 12 reaches the top of chamber 11, ram 22 moves prongs 24 to the position shown, where they fit in slots in the platform to retain the solids when the platform descends. Ram 19 then moves pressing head 18 leftwards, pushing back prongs 24 and pushing the solids into a chamber 17, defined between an apertured floor 21 and a spring-loaded pivoted plate 20. Liquid is squeezed out through floor 21 and channels 21a in head 18 and the compacted solids are ejected from the left-hand end of chamber 17, plate 20 pivoting to allow ejection and passage of incompressible solids.
