Abstract

A liquid suitable for high quality compost is removed, leaving a non-fermenting residue. A cylinder (3) has side entries through which the material is forced for compression by downwards movement of a piston (1) which blocks off the entries as it travels. A perforated plate (6) compresses the material inside a perforated chamber (5) and the liquid passes through channels into a collector chamber (11) below. The compressed material is moved sideways by a sliding movement of the whole block (7) housing the chamber, and the compressed mass is ejected by a pusher device (8, 9) alongside the cylinder. Simultaneously, the next compression stroke takes place. The compressed material can be ejected by another pusher at the opposite side of the cylinder.
