Abstract

1434110 Railway vehicle undercarriages AVON RUBBER CO Ltd 22 Aug 1973 39883/73 Heading B7L [Also in Division F2] The railway vehicle resilient side bearer of Specification 1,373,083 (i.e. a hollow elastomeric tube 60 secured between two elongate plates 62, 66) is provided with means 63, 64, 74, 75 which, whilst allowing relative movement of the plates 62, 66 towards each other, resists their relative movement parallel to each other. Thus radial compression of the tube 60 is allowed, whereas longitudinal and rolling shear are resisted. Midway along their length, one plate 62 is provided with a sleeve 63 and the other plate 66 with a spigot 64, the sleeve and spigot being housed in a transverse hole in the tube 60. A bushing consisting of an elastomeric bush 75 and a sleeve 74 is force-fitted into the annular space between the sleeve 63 and the spigot 64. On movement of the plates 62, 66 towards each other, the spigot 64 and the sleeve 74 slide over each other without stressing the bush 75. However on subsequent side-to-side or front-to-back movement of the plates the spigot 64 moves radially relative to the sleeve 63, placing the bush 75 in radial compression. The bogie (not shown) is mounted on the bearer via a friction pad 68.
