Abstract

1434001 Two part coupling BERG MFG CO 27 March 1974 [27 March 1973] 13623/74 Heading H2E An inter-vehicular connector assembly comprises cable-mounted connector 10 mating with receptacle 12 mounted on flange 72. In connector 10 elastomeric cable grip 24 fits by flange 26 on to rear boss 18 of housing 14, sealing to the sheath of cable inserted from rear, with conductors unsheathed after passing spacer 42 to connect to female contacts 40 in partitioned body sleeve 28 sealed to housing 14 at 32. Cable clamp member 46 urges the cable against the wall of passage 16 and spacer 42, and is itself urged by spring 50 and screw (52, Fig. 7, not shown). Receptacle 12 carries insulating plate member 68 (see Fig. 2) with L-shaped seal 88 projecting forward to seal additionally 90 against connector 10 on mating. Radical ribs behind plate 68 separate male contacts 92 mounted on the plate, self-tapping screws 98 clamping the conductors in the contacts with openings in outer plastics layer 68 to retain the screws. Cover 66, with coil spring 76 in the hinge shielded for safety, is sealed to face 64 by annular tongue and groove 84, 82. The receptacle 12 is mounted with a slight tilt to drain water.
