Abstract

1433996 Apparatus for closing box flap A MARCHETTI 11 April 1974 16268/74 Heading B8C A device for closing the rear top flaps of boxes 22 comprises a roller conveyer 2 over which the boxes are moved by driven side belts 4, a folding arm 6 mounted on a shaft 5 which extends transversely to the direction of movement of the boxes and can be moved axially with a simultaneous rotational movement to cause the folding arm 6 to move behind a box and close its rear top flap, and a double-acting pneumatic piston and cylinder unit for moving the shaft 5. The shaft 5 includes a helically grooved portion which is spaced from the end carrying the folding arm 6 by a flat surfaced portion. Guide rollers 21 are engageable with the grooved portion to cause rotation of the shaft 5 as it is moved axially. The piston and cylinder unit is controlled by valves 19 and 20 actuated by the box. The folding arm 6 comprises a rear portion 26 which is horizontal when in the position shown in Fig. 1, and a leading portion 27 inclined downwardly from the horizontal rear portion 26. The folding arrangement is adjustably mounted on a fixed support 9.
