Abstract
1433143 Current collection in dynamoelectric machines SIEMENS AG 23 May 1973 [23 May 1972] 24692/73 Heading H2A In order to transfer large currents I between a rapidly-rotating disc 4 and a stationary brush 8, a conductive roller 2 mounted on an axle 5 in a bearing 6 is positioned in contact with a ring of liquid metal 1, e.g. mercury or sodiumpotassium, centrifugally formed in an annular groove 3 in an annular rim of the disc 4, and the roller 2 is either allowed to freewheel or is mechanically driven so that its peripheral tangential velocity matches that of the liquid ring. The brush 8 may be a conventional solid brush as shown, or a liquid contact arrangement (not shown). The roller 2 may have a grooved contact edge (12, Fig. 4, not shown).
