Abstract

1432867 Centrifugal pumps KLEIN SCHANZLIN & BECKER AG 7 Nov 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 51774/73 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump comprises an annular or volute delivery casing 5 encircling the impeller 2 and disposed within an outer casing 1, the interior of the delivery casing defining a delivery chamber communicating with the output zone of the impeller, and the exterior of the delivery casing defining with the interior of the outer casing an inlet chamber 12 including a generally conical inlet portion 6 leading to the impeller eye. The outer casing 1 has inlet and outlet branches 3, 4 whose axes lie in a common plane normal to the impeller axis, the inlet branch 3 communicating with the inlet chamber 12 and the outlet branch 4 being connected to the delivery chamber via a conduit 8 extending through the inlet chamber. Sealing rings such as 10 are provided at each end of the conduit 8. The branches 3, 4, which may be at 180 degrees to one another as shown or at any other angle within the common plane, are interchangeable in function. More than two branches may be provided, to allow a choice of alternative positions for the inlet and outlet branches, unused branches being blanked off, or to allow the use of a plurality of inlet branches or outlet branches, additional conduits 8 and co-operating delivery openings in the delivery casing 5 being provided in the latter case. The outer casing 1 is of generally spherical or spheroidal form.
