Abstract

1371681 Circumferential-flow pumps KLEIN SCHANZLIN & BECKER AG 2 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 4921/72 Heading F1C In a circumferential-flow pump, a part of the casing surrounding the impeller hub 2 forms two pressure pockets 4, 4 in association with the hub, the pockets being separated from each other by restrictor webs 5, 5' and being axially defined by restrictor gaps 6, 6', a connecting duct 9 extending from the delivery zone 7 to the pocket 4 and a connecting duct 11 extending from the inlet zone 10 to the pocket 4'. The resultant radial thrust on the impeller compensates for the radial thrust caused by the pressure gradient existing around the circumference. The restrictor gap 6 may be replaced by a restrictor gap between the adjacent radial face of the impeller and the casing. Flow regulating elements may be disposed in the ducts 9, 11.
