Abstract

1432602 Ammonia treatment apparatus HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 17 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 41308/75 Divided out of 1432601 Heading D1L In a method for imparting flame retardance to a cellulose-containing textile (e.g. of cotton) by impregnating the material with an aqueous solution of 10-40% by weight tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium hydroxide, drying to a moisture content of 0-8% by wt. and then exposing the dried material to gaseous NH3, the NH3 treatment is carried out in a housing 1 having a gas inlet 2 and outlet 3 in its upper and lower parts respectively, textile material inlet 4 and outlet 5 formed in the lower part of the housing, a partition 7 located above the material inlet and outlet forming a chamber in which the gas treatment is performed and having sealed inlet 8 and outlet 9 for the textile material and guide rollers 6 for grinding the impregnated material through the housing. A perforated plate 10 is provided in the upper part of the gas treatment chamber to distribute evenly the gas entering the Chamber. Sensing parts 11 may be provided for removal of samples of the gaseous atmosphere for analysis to monitor the concentration of treatment gas.
