Abstract

A material to be treated to two separate processes in two separate treatment chambers passes from one chamber to the other chamber through a duct which is slightly larger than the dimensions of the material. A seal between the chambers is effected by injecting sealing fluid into the duct via distribution chambers connecting with the duct. The pressure of the sealing fluid is greater than the highest pressure existing in either chamber. The device is used for treating e.g. textile webs, natural or synthetic yarns; metal wires or sheets; semi-conductors etc. The material can move continuously from one process to another without an intermediate stage, thereby speeding up operation.
