Abstract

1432360 Controlling compression ignition engines GENERAL MOTORS Ltd 15 Nov 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 52888/72 Heading F1K In a compression ignition engine control device an actuator member 1 which is movable from an OFF to an ON position in which the engine fuel injectors are respectively inoperative and operative and which is spring-biased to its OFF position, is engageable by an electromagnetically actuated catch 20, 21 which engages with and locks the actuator member against movement when the electromagent (solenoid 13) is de-energized but releases the member for movement when energized, a latch lever 30 being arranged so that movement of the actuator member 1 to the ON position engages the latch lever and brings it from a first position in which it is non-responsive to the flux of the electromagnet into a second position in which under the action of the flux it is held in such a position and latches the actuator member in the ON position until de-energization of the electromagnet permits the latch lever to disengage from the actuator member and allows the spring (not shown) to return the actuator member to its OFF position in which it is re-engaged by the catch. The actuator member is linked to a member operable to actuate the engine fuel injectors between the OFF and ON conditions and the solenoid 13 is connected so as to be energized when a starter switch (not shown) for the engine is in its START or RUN position but to be de-energized when the starter switch is in its OFF position.
