Abstract

1431443 Annular cutters W J WEBB 24 July 1974 [25 April 1973] 55774/72 Heading B3C [Also in Division H2E] A method of making a connection to a cable by making an aperture through the outer sheath uses tool means comprising a guide means 1 and a cutting tool 2. The guide means 1 comprises two sections 3, clamped about a cable (not shown) using bolt 8 through holes 6, 7 in lugs 5, each section having cylindrical sections 9 projecting outwards with holes 10 therein. The cutting tool comprises a cylindrical body 11 with slit end 12 to receive tooth 13 axially offset from the centre of the body. Cam follower 14 on the cutting tool engages cam surface 15 on the guide means to ensure that a circular hole is cut only through the outer sheath, the cam surface being of the same shape as the inner surface of the sheath to be cut. Cutting is achieved by rotation of the cutting means 1 in holes 10.
